40-th Annual International Conference on The Psychology of the Self
"Empathic Depths and Relational Leaps - Creating Therapeutic Possibility"

October 19-22, 2017

Chicago, IL

Event sponsored by: International Association for Psychoanalytic Self-Psychology [IAPSP]

The need to find better ways of understanding, connecting with and responding to patients, especially those for whom traditional approaches were ineffective, drove the beginnings of Self Psychology. The same need drives the evolution and expansion of Self Psychology to this day. Forty years after the publication of Kohut's The Restoration of the Self, our understanding of what patients need and what helps them heal and change continues to deepen and expand. Therapists still search for new ways of understanding, fitting together and responding to patients.

At this, the 40th Annual International Conference on the Psychology of the Self, we will pose challenging questions about the therapeutic dyad's increased flexibility of expression in both implicit and explicit domains, the therapist's responsibility and freedom in forging connectedness in order to facilitate transformation, and the complexities of affective engagement for both patient and therapist as we explore openings that emerge from the back and forth between deepening empathic immersion and expanding relational possibilities.

Deadline for abstracts or proposals: 3/6/2017.

About:

The International Association of Risk Management in Medicine [IARMM] was founded in 2002.

Because of rapid globalization of society and progress in technological innovations, problems related to global environment issues, life-style disease, community health, occupational health, medical accidents, food product health, international health, mental health and health problems for aging population are on the rise. Whilst we all recognize the importance of the practice of risk management sciences for prevention of those problems by risk assessment, it is essential to integrate interdisciplinary research in such fields as political economics, administration studies, sociology, environmental science, ecology, behavioral science, information science, education, ethics, epidemiology and statistics, not just to develop technologies to implement government policies and countermeasures. This Society, therefore, seeks to contribute to the promotion of scientifically sound countermeasures and solutions by encouraging the free exchange and interplay of international research activities.

The official publication of IARMM is the Journal of Medical Safety.
